How To Achieve Your Unique Style with Motions! #UrsulaforMotions

(Me flexing on Instagram.....)

I've been natural for 3.5 years now & I must say...I'm loving the journey. I started out with a TWA(teeny weeny afro) & then it grew to mid-length & now I'm #taperlicious. LOL, that's just one of my terms for having a tapered cut. I've been rocking with the tapered cut since Jan/Feb 2013. So I've had this cut for 1.5 years. I love it so & I think I've discovered my signature style with this cut. It's big, bold & it's ME. Growing my hair out? That just depends on what day you ask me. Sometimes I want to, but I can't keep the scissors out of my hands. There will be no length progress if I have anything to do with it, lol! The #taperedcut is my undoubtedly my signature style. I've partnered with Motions to help you discover your own unique style. Whether you're natural or relaxed, etc. We all have our own style that is different from anyone else. It's one of the things that makes you YOU.

Small confession: Even though I love my tapered cut, I have a slight obsession with bobs! There's just something about a healthy, bouncy bob that makes me happy. If I ever do grow my hair out, a bob would definitely be my next hairstyle. I'm such a short #hairgurl now, lol. If you love bobs too, check out these how-to videos from celebrity hairstyling expert Ursula Stephen where she shows you how to achieve your unique style with a glam bob & a blunt bang.

And Motions is also having some great sales going on at Walgreens for September! Kits are 25% off & select Motions products are on sale for just $3.49. I'll be definitely stopping by soon to try out the Motions Define My Curls Crème. I've been eyeballing it for awhile now & this sale is the extra push I needed. If you love Motions products, let me know in the comments. Which ones are your fave? And what's YOUR unique style? Until next time ladies. :-)

Hair Of the Weekend: Off-Centered Puff

Been rocking this off-centered puff for the last few days...It's easy! I can tell you that much. Moisturize, lightly brush the edges upward, wrap the band around the curls, add a few bobby pins, & go! Can't believe my hair has grown so much over this last year. :D Don't know if I've told you guys this, but my hair is pretty much shoulder length. Well, it's kissing my shoulder in a lot of places. Neck length in other places. I know I'm wayyyyy overdue for a length check. Heading to my hometown (Memphis!) for Christmas & I'm thinking about flat ironing again....I don't know yet. I really wanna have fluffy, bouncy, light curled hair for Christmas. Think Claire Huxtable aka Phylicia Rashad. Better yet here's some pics.

This is pretty much the look I'm going for. I don't want my hair to be extremely straight which is why I love these pics because they realistically show how my hair will look. My hair is not as long as hers in these pics, but this is basically how I want it to look. My 1 year natural hair anniversary which will be in January so I was initially going to straighten it then...but hey we'll see! I suppose I could blow dry out & do some roller curls?? Hmmmm.

Really haven't thought about how I'll be wearing my hair for Thanksgiving....& that's odd because unlike previous Thanksgivings we'll be cooking a light menu this year. So I'll have plenty of time to do my hair! Another hmmmm. lol

4 Things I Learned About My Natural Hair This Summer

Things I learned about my natural hair this summer:

1. There were no ill effects (breakage, etc) from me applying the Textures & Tones hair color to my hair. The dyed hair is just as healthy as the part that isn't. :D I'm gonna continue to monitor my hair...

2. I get bored easily so creating hairstyles is a MUST. I thought when I went natural I would just rock curly 'fros all willy nilly, but by August I was already ready to change it up! lol I think I'm gonna put a hairstyles tab at the top of the page as I've come up with a lot over the years. ;-)

3. My pre-poo/co-wash detangle routine is the business. I never realized how helpful this would be to my regimen.

4. Postpartum shedding doesn't last forever! #thankgod

So summer is really over??? It's always hard to say 'see you next year' to my favorite time of year. :(  This is random, but.....am I the only that believes summer should start at the beginning of June & not towards the end? Because I'm a good sport....

Welcome Fall!

**Please check out this post & tell me how we should celebrate HairGurl's 3rd Birthday!!! :D What should we do??!!**

My Pre-poo/Co-wash Detangle Method

Recently, I've been a big fan of pre-pooing/co-washing. This whole summer actually. I'd done both of these on relaxed hair & it didn't impress me at all the majority of the time. Now that I'm natural, I MUST detangle my hair. It gets way too tangly for me to skip detangling sessions so that's why I started incorporating more pre-pooing & co-washing. I'm already going through postpartum shedding & I definitely don't wanna add to more hair being lost, lol! I should also mention that I don't wash my scalp per se with the conditioner though. I only apply it to my hair & then rinse it out. Both of these methods are great for detangling! I  do them about 2-4 times a week. I still make sure I wash my hair at least once a week! Here's what I do:

1. Simply slather my hair w/ the conditioner. Sometimes I add evoo to the conditioner.
2. Detangle my hair with only my fingers. This takes about 10-15 mins I think.
3. Put on my grocery bag. ;-) Note: I don't keep as many as I used too... Sometimes I put my Hair Therapy Wrap on over the bag.
4. Leave it in for as long as I want to. I tweeted a few days ago that I was going on hr. no. 22 with the condish in my hair so yeah...lol.
5. Rinse.
6. After rinsing, I either shampoo my hair & dc as normal or I just rinse & apply my leave-ins. Hence, me using both terms.

True story: When we moved to Houston in September, I went to Dollar Tree to get some body wash. When I got home, I realized that instead of picking up the White Rain body wash, I'd gotten like 3 bottles of White Rain Lavender Vanilla Conditioner. Hair on the brain?? Guess so! Being the true #hairgurl I am, I just kept them! :D Hey, you can NEVER have to many conditioners!

So this is the conditioner I've been using the most for my detangling sessions. Mainly, because of the Dollar Tree mix up, but it's been working well to my advantage. :-) I love how my hair just soaks this stuff up. I even play in my curls a little while it's in my hair.

I still have my trust VO5 conditioners ready for a comeback. I'm experimenting with the Strawberries & Cream condish to see how well it moisturizes the 'fro. I may even re-visit the Suave conditioners as well. We'll see.....:-)

Weekend Hair: Holiday Party No.2

I can really tell I'm preggie by looking at this pic...My face is even fatter than usual.
This is how I wore my hair to the 2nd holiday party we attended this past Saturday. I've been abusing my curling & flat iron this month.: \.....but that's how it always goes around this time of year though. As long as I keep up the weekly deep conditioning, my hair will be fine. I'm also cutting a lot thesed days.... I achieved this style with the curling iron. I flat ironed on Friday night to prepare the style. The more I see my hair color in these pics (and others) the more I love it. :-) I won't be coloring while preggie, but I am considering it once I have the baby. I can't believe Christmas is this Saturday!!! :D

Holiday Party '10 Pics

Here are the hair pics from the holiday party. I ended doing curls with the curling iron. I pinned up my hair a little in the back on the side, but I left a lot of tendrils out. It came out really cute.

You can really see my hair color in this pic!

So far I'm making this preggie ish look good!;-) I'm a little past 4 months now.

Roadtrip Rewind: Macy's Natural Mannequin

Look what I spotted while I was out roadtripping. A natural hair mannequin in Macy's at the Northpark Mall in Dallas! When I saw her I told my hubby, "Look, there's a natural mannequin!" I was so excited. Of course, he didn't see the big deal. Isn't she lovely? I had to snap a quick pic of her hair. I dubbed her natural because of her curls (even though you can duplicate this look on a relaxed head). ;-) Shoot I want curls like this, lol!

Summer Style: Wash-N-Go Hair

One of my favorite things about the summertime is that I can co-wash or wash my hair, apply my leave-ins, & head out the door. :D My hair dries on the way. Ahhhh....wash-n-go hair. Love them! I feel so carefree when I do a wash-n-go. I guess that's because it's a carefree hairstyle. ;-) Can't do these in the winter...unless you want to catch pneumonia.
The wind started blowing as soon as I started taking pics....

And the wash-n-go just keeps getting bigger & bigger! Here it is at the end of the day before I went to bed. I fluffed it out a lot too!

Do you wash-n-go? If not, try it out & let me know how you like it! Make sure you are following me on Twitter & Facebook for more of my ramblings about hair and anything else I want to talk about. :-)
