Summer Style: Wash-N-Go Hair

One of my favorite things about the summertime is that I can co-wash or wash my hair, apply my leave-ins, & head out the door. :D My hair dries on the way. Ahhhh....wash-n-go hair. Love them! I feel so carefree when I do a wash-n-go. I guess that's because it's a carefree hairstyle. ;-) Can't do these in the winter...unless you want to catch pneumonia.
The wind started blowing as soon as I started taking pics....

And the wash-n-go just keeps getting bigger & bigger! Here it is at the end of the day before I went to bed. I fluffed it out a lot too!

Do you wash-n-go? If not, try it out & let me know how you like it! Make sure you are following me on Twitter & Facebook for more of my ramblings about hair and anything else I want to talk about. :-)

6 Tips for Washing Your Hair!

1. Detangle, Detangle, Detangle! You don't want to make the mistake and put water in your hair and it's not detangled. Knots and Tangle City I tell ya. It's hard to get a hair knot out and it's even harder if your hair is wet. Remember: your hair hair weaker & more fragile when it's wet. I did this one time and I had so many knots. I've actually done this more than once! lol... Divide your hair into 4 sections and detangle each part separately.
2. Add some oil to your mane while concentrating on the ends. I use coconut oil. :D Shampoos have harsh ingredients that have a tendency to strip your strands. The oils prep them for the manipulation.
3. Get in the shower. Not under the kitchen or bathtub faucet . Tangle City again! Under a shower head the water pushes the hair straight down and you are less likely to get tangles. I remember when I would wash my hair under the kitchen sink and then I would spend 10-15 minutes just trying to untangle the mess. Not anymore.
4. Don't pile your hair on top of your head. This is piggy backing off of #3. Just let your hang straight down. As I mentioned before....Tangle City. 5. Apply the shampoo to your hands and fingertips. Knead your fingertips into your scalp. Really get the shampoo on your scalp because your mission is to clean it. Concentrate the most on your scalp. It's the pits to scratch your scalp after washing and have white dirt under your nails. Yuck! Wash your hair in sections if you need too. I divide my hair into 2 sections, but some ladies divide their hair into 4. It's a personal preference thing.
6. Invest in a wide tooth shower comb. Jilbere and Conair make great ones. I have a purple Conair and it's great. I don't miss that $1.50 I spent on it at all! lol A good shower comb will assist in keeping your hair untangled.
These tips will definitely help in creating a great hair wash day. :-) Does anyone have any tips they use on hair wash day? Spill!

Morning Hair Wash, Pt.2

Okay so fast forward 7 hours later....I feel asleep with the conditioner in my hair. So basically I dc'ed for about 6 hours. I fall asleep often with conditioner in my hair so this wasn't a big thing to me. And I used my trusty 'ol grocery bags. Yep! I collect grocery bags out of habit because my mother did it. So I've been dc'ing with grocery bags for about 2.5 years. I had a table top dome dryer but that sucker stopped working in '08. lol, That's okay though. The grocery bags work just fine for me. :-) Note: If I do get another hooded dryer, it'll be for rollersets.
So after showering and rinsing out the conditioner.....
Here's my hair with no product.
I base my leave-in on how my hair feels and what it needs at the moment. I've been having a little breakage so I chose my Aphogee ProVitamin. I divide my hair into two sections (a part down the middle) and spray 3-4 times in my hand for each side.
Then I top it off with my VO5 Moisturizing Conditioner in Strawberries and Cream and coconut oil! I know that Vo5 is meant to be washed out, but it's such a GREAT leave-in. The Aphogee has protein in it and that can be drying to the hair that's why I put the V05 in. It softens my hair up immediately. This equals strong and soft hair. :D The coconut oil is like the icing on the cake. The VO5 and coconut are staples and I use these as leave-ins 99.9% percent of the time. Then I put my hair in this pony. I usually airdry like this if I'm not going to flat-iron. Sometimes I airdry with my hair loose. I hope you guys enjoyed my walk through an average wash for me. As you can see it's very simple. :-) -K.D.
