Are Hair Extensions Right For You?

In my early 20s, I got my hair professionally cut into a cute bob. I LOVED IT. I wish I'd taken more pics of my hair back then. : \ I don't really have any pics of that cut. After I got bored with that, I soon found a girl to install half-a-head weaves aka hair extensions into my hair. One of my friends even said to me, "So you cut your hair JUST to put a weave in it??" What can I say! I get bored very easily with my hair. Ya'll know this! And I'm impulsive. If I want to change it, that's exactly what I do. I have fun with my hair! For me, it's just another accessory. :D

The weave game sucked me in. I got tired of having to chase my "weave installer" around, so I learned how to sew the hair in myself. I prefer sewing because in high school I had a very bad experience with hair glue. I ended up losing A LOT (to me) of hair. Lesson learned. I had an unhealthy addiction to weaves because it was my access to long hair which at the time I thought I would never truly have. If you've been following my blog, you know those feelings are a distant thing of the past. ;-)

Quick Tips if You're Considering Hair Extensions

1. Have fun with them! There are so many styles to choose from.
2. Don't become attached to them. Think of them as an exciting, but temporary change.
3. Genuinely get to know & love the hair that's growing out of your scalp. A weave will never replace that.

Weave days....

So how do you find the right hair extensions? Find out the Philip James way. Read on!

A Guide To Hair Extensions
There are many things that you can do with hair extensions as they can serve many purposes in regards to your hairstyle. Hair extensions not only add length and volume to your hair, but they also provide a means for experimenting with different looks and styles for your hair. There is a wide variety of different types of hair extensions that serve different purposes and made for certain types of hair, so it is important to figure out which hair extensions are the best fit for you and your hairstyle.
The hair extensions experts at Philip James Salon in Chicago have created this guide to hair extensions that is a visual resource that helps to identify the different types of hair extensions and why they might be the right type for your hairstyle. I like how you can see the breakdown of the different types of extensions side by side to really compare the different options you have in regards to choosing hair extensions.  Below is some of the more interesting information that I found useful from the graphic below.
What information did you find to be most interesting?
  • There are so many options for hair extensions including fusion, micro link, braidless sew-in, skin weft and clip in and clip on extensions.

  • There are hair extensions that are meant for long term use that can range anywhere from 2-4 months and there also hair extensions that are not advised for everyday wear.
  • All hair extensions require some sort of maintenance.  Most require some sort of daily brushing where others require a higher degree of maintenance to ensure they last.

  • Hair extensions like micro link extensions and sew-in extensions fit just about all hair types. If you have damaged or over processed hair be sure to try fusion extensions

My 1st Twist Out on Natural Hair!

Did some random twists on my hair just to stretch it today. I had no idea what style to put it in, but I knew I wanted it to be stretched. After taking the twists out, the curls looked so pretty! So I decided to rock a twist out (which i haven't rocked since the beginning of my healthy hair care adventure in '07).

I'll do a better one next time!! This one was completely random!

Let's Have Fun With Transitioning!

I just had the best idea!! Okay, ya'll already know I'm transitioning. Right? I've also been cutting off an inch or more every month. So I'm thinking...since I'll be cutting my hair a little more each month why not get some of the hairstyles I've been too scared to cut my hair into?! I've never had my hair cut shorter than a bob. This will give me a chance to wear short hairstyles without fully committing to them. I've been loving this hairstyle for the last year! I will definitely be getting it finally...even if it is just for a little while. ;-) This is Tip from A Stylish Southerner. I hope she starts blogging again soon! Love her style.
I'm so excited! I can't wait to cut my hair like this!!! Are any of you HGs rocking this haircut? How do you like it?? What's the upkeep like?

Hair Talk: What Hairstyle Would You Rock For the Rest of Your Life?

*gasping at her bun*

If you could only rock one hairstyle for the rest of your life, what would it be? I know what I would rock...BRAIDOUTS! Ya'll know how much I love braidouts. I could definitely wear them EVERDAY!!!

Ok now it's your turn! Remember....it can only be ONE hairstyle!

After Waking Up From A Nap....

This is how my hair looked. lol...I didn't wear a scarf. And I didn't play with to get it nice for the camera. Straight raw footage. I just came home and went to sleep. I was so tired. I wore a braidout today...even though you can't tell from the photo! :0 Even when my hair looks like this I still love it. :-)
Sidenote: I'm thinking about dying my hair black again. I like it brown, but I also love black hair. Brown can get boring for me since this is my natural hair color. My mother used to say I had a dirty brown hair color. :-) It's funny to me now. I'm starting to miss my hi-lights. : \Even though they were hell on my hair.... What's your fave hair color? Friday's "Farrah Fawcett" Hair

This style literally took me about 30-40 minutes. I sloppily rollerset my hair just adding a little water to each section. I only used a few drops of water on each section because I was in a rush and I wanted it to dry fast. I wanted a light free falling rollerset. In the next 2 photos, you'll notice that I roll my hair going back instead of forward.
This is how I get that Farrah Fawcett look. :-)
However, this is how it looked at the end of the day. : \ Granted, I drove with the top down. It was a nice day! So the wind was constantly attacking my hair. lol...
I'm gonna try this style again. I'm looking to perfect it. Do you rollerset going backwards? I have to say, this is a new thing for me.

I Love the GHD IV Styler!

If you follow me on Twitter & Facebook, this is old news to you, but I tried my GHD flat iron! It.is.so.AMAZING. I'm so serious. It's way better than my FHI. It even feels uncomfortable typing that because I lov(ed) the FHI. : \ I told everyone I knew about it. Every time you see photos of my flat ironed my hair, that was the FHI's magic. That was before the GHD..... ;-) I'm going to type up an official review and post it tommorrow with photos of my hair. Here are a few teasers. :-) Make sure you are following me on Twitter & Facebook for more of my ramblings about hair

Check Out My Rollerset Hair!

Last night, I was feeling a bit "blah" about my hair so I decided to do a rollerset. If you follow HG, you know I don't do rollersets...ever because in the past they never looked right on my hair. I think it was the layers that kinda threw the look off......since my hair has gotten longer & the layers are almost gone, I decided to give it a go.
So here I am right before bed...with random rollers everywhere.(lol) Hey as long as they get the job done right?

The finished product! I was shocked because I thought it was going to look like a hot mess. Surprisingly, I LOVED the way it came out! :D

(BTW, these pics were taken right after I woke up. I was so excited that I just started snapping away!)

This look may just be my new spring/summer signature look. :-) I used smaller rollers at the crown & bigger rollers on the bottom. I wanted that "Joan Clayton" bounce at the crown. Ha!
