REPOST: To Relax or Transition...That Is The Question

Originally posted on 1/31/2009, I wrote in the comments on the original post that I wouldn't be doing a bc...& here I sit 6 months after my bc. Ain't life funny? Ironically, I bc'ed January 20, 2011...almost exactly 2 years after the original post. I love looking back & seeing how I've grown in different areas of my life. :-)

I'm so confused...Today I pre-pooed, clarified, and dc'ed my hair. I never really prepoo but today I thought I would try it out. My hair feels great! I'm 14.5 weeks post....remember when I told ya'll I was trying to stretch to 16 weeks? Well, I was going to relax my hair this coming Wed. (at 15 weeks post) because I have an event to attend on Feb. 7th. However.....I've been playing in my newgrowth basically all day and it feels so nice. The texture is very pretty and I'm curious as to how my hair would look like this all over! I see why some ladies transition....Now I'm confused as to whether I want to transition or relax... I know right!

I've always wanted to go natural, but I didn't think now was the time to do it....but now I really don't know.
What's a girl to do? This is a really hard decision...

4 Months Post! :-)

Hey ladies,

I've made it!!! I've been just waiting for that 4 month mark to get here (actually it's tommorrow). This is officially the longest I've ever stretched a relaxer. The time before this was 15 weeks last year in February & my hair looked like this! -_- So this time I was scared to see what they what my ends would even look like. At the same time, I didn't care because as you know I'm transitioning.

Transition Update

I've measured my new growth in various parts of my head & it's about 1-1.5 inches....and that's stretched! So the growth is coming along. It's crazy because I'm trying to calculate how much growth I'll get a month. That way I know when to chop off the relaxed ends. I think I'll be transitioning for 6-12 months (with emphasis on 6 & 9). I flat ironed this morning and the new growth is so curly it kind of dreads up when I flat iron. Don't know if that makes since....lol. I'm managing the textures better now. It's a must that I section my hair to moisturize & seal.

Possible Bob?
Yep....I might be cutting my hair in a bob. Not a really short bob...It would rest around my shoulders. Don't know when/if I'll be doing this. I'm gonna have to cut my relaxed ends off next year & cutting it in a bob will make it easier for me. I've already done a light trim....

Okay I'm off to finish cleaning up. I'll be posting my Thanksgiving hair on Friday! Happy Thanksgiving! :D

14 Weeks Post Today

And the struggle continues....so by now I would've already have gotten a relaxer in my pre-preggie days.;-) I just finished combing and detangling & that's a job within itself. If you are liking me on  Facebook, then you know just a few minutes ago I wrote I was considering doing a small chop. A small chop is just the 1st chop preparing my hair for the big chop. I was thinking about cutting my hair into a bob for now....maybe. This is a big decision for me so when I decide to do it, I won't be turning back. Therefore, I have to give this A LOT of thought. I like my hair at the length it is now and I don't want to have to start over. What to do...what to do....

Meanwhile, I've been looking at a lot of natural hairspiration. I just want to wear my hair big utltimately!

My Spongy New Growth

My part is not that big...don't know why it shows like that sometimes in pics.
"Your hair was very spongy when you were small. It was a headache to take care of. Maybe you can do it."-My Mother And that's why I received my 1st relaxer in elementary school, lol. This is a quote from my mother. I always wondered what "spongy hair" looked like & I would question & question my mother on end about it. I wanted to know exactly what it looked like! So I guess this is what spongy hair looks like! Currently, I'm 13 weeks post relaxer. I have a few different textures running rampant in my head. I already knew this though...These pics shows the front right side of my new growth. In this area, its curly and the growth wounds around each other. I still haven't decided whether I'm transitioning or not. I'm doing the "let's wait and see"thing right now ...So let's wait and see. :-) Sidenote: I must say as usual I am having fun playing in my new growth...even though it's becoming harder & harder to comb & detangle....

The New New

That's right...newgrowth! I was thinking about how I looked at my newgrowth before I started my hair journey. I would look at my newgrowth and think "Man, it's time for a relaxer." I never looked at it and thought "My hair is growing." Maybe if I thought the latter I would've thought twice about protecting my ends to retain my growth. Instead, I would count down the weeks until I could flatten my "growth" asap...lol.
Fast forward to 1 year and 2 months (today) into my hair journey to grow my hair longer and I love my new new! When I'm washing my hair I always twist the curls and play with them. I want to go natural in the future and I can't wait to see how my natural hair looks. Now when I look at my new growth I concentrate greatly on my ends. I keep my new new and my ends moisturized. Chile, I'm trying to retain all my length! lol I can't believe I ever looked at my new growth with an attitude. So here's to me embracing my new new!
Happy Hair Growing!
