1st Time Flat Ironing My Natural Hair!

Tired face...
I'm late posting this, but if you follow me on Twitter you've already seen pics of my newly flat ironed hair! This past Friday, I flat ironed my hair in lieu of celebrating me being 8 months natural. :D I told ya'll last week that I was gonna do it...and I did! :D Boy, that was the longest night ever. I was so tired. I didn't start prepping my hair until 12:30-1am (was waiting for Khlo-Child to go to sleep) I ended up finishing around 4am (i think). I don't know if you ladies can tell, but the ends of my hair were anything BUT straight. Chile....I really should've watched a few YouTube videos on how to effectively straighten natural hair ends. It is NOT as easy as relaxed hair I'll tell you!

the edges felt wonderful & so smooth! As you can see my hair is around the length it was when I started my hair care journey.

Here's the breakdown:
1. Clarified my hair with VO5 Herbal Escapes Clarifying Shampoo
Clarifying made my scalp feel WONDERFUL! It's been way too long since I last clarified. It's great to do this before a flat iron session because it removes product buildup from the scalp & hair. Perfect for creating light, bouncy hair! :-)

2. Dc'ed with Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner for about 2 hours. ( won a gift set back in April...)

3. Applied Aphogee Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer & Garnier Fructis Anti-Humidity Smoothing Milk. I realize now that I should have applied either more of the Smoothing Milk or added an extra product. The Smoothing Milk gave my hair a silky feeling though.

4. Sectioned off the hair & began flat ironing with the GHD. Love this flat iron!!! Don't think I can say that enough! Remember my review?? I've written about this flat iron several times. It was just as amazing on my natural hair & made my hair feel so silky. Had I used the comb-chase method, I'm confident the entire length of my hair would have felt just as great.

After I was done flat ironing, I didn't wrap my hair. It was just too thick & the ends were curly so the wrap wouldn't have been that effective anyway. I simply wrapped my scarf around my hair & finally went to sleep. I took a shower the next day & the somewhat straight hair I had became extinct. LOL

Will show you guys the style I came up w/ in the next post!!! Very easy to do!
For a next peek of the style visit the Facebook page...It's the hairstyle in my profile pic. ;-) There's also some on Twitter...

TWA: Easy Way to Create a Curly 'Fro (Video)

Another video! :D You've all seen my pics of my curly 'fro that I've been doing since I bc'ed. I've been meaning to do this video for awhile & now that my hair is growing past my twa stage, this was the perfect time to post before my hair became to long. I get so many compliments when I wear my hair simply like this...

Futhermore, my 8 month natural anniversary is tomorrow so....i'll think I'll be flat ironing! ;-) I keep going back & forth on whether I'll do it or not...even tweeted asking other naturals how long they waited. lol....Okay right now, I think I'm gonna do it. I'm either going to do it on Tuesday or this coming weekend. Get ready to see some pics if i do!!! Oh & there should be no question on which flat iron I'm gonna use. (hint, hint)

GHD Curls!

Hey HGs, Just got back from my trip to Memphis yesterday and I had sooooo much fun! :D I love being around my family, but it always ends too soon. : ( I've never really gotten used to being away from my family. Never. On a bad note.......I curled my hair on Saturday and Sunday with the GHD. : \ lol, I wasn't supposed to be using heat to achieve curls, but.......I did. #ohwell The GHD creates some of the prettiest curls I've ever seen. :-) Yes, it's a flat iron, but you can curl your hair with it. It's all in the wrist! Check it out. ;-)
I'm just hoping there's not a lot of heat damage..... Make sure you are following me on Twitter & Facebook for more of my ramblings about hair and anything else I want to talk about. :-)

Hana Professional 1 Inch Flat Iron Review

( The before shot....)
Hey girlies! How was everyone's Mother's Day??? I had a pretty good weekend hanging out with the hubs & on Sunday we went to his mother's house for a bbq. :-) We also saw Iron Man 2 & the Saturday Night Live Special with Betty White. It was hilarious! She's so sarcastic & funny it's ridiculous! Okay enough about my fabulous weekend. ;-) On to the review of the Hana.....The great people at Misikko sent me the Hana Professional 1 inch Flat Iron (currently retailing for $119.99) & I was very impressed with the packaging. They even sent me some little gifts inside. :-)
Here's a photo of the pink loveliness....

A few facts about the Hana Pro:
-Advanced fusion tourmalin ceramic plates for accelerated ion generation & maximum frizz-free shine
-Floating plates auto-adjust to glide over any texture
-Flash heats from 140-450 degrees for all hair types
-No slip-grip; heavy duty swivel cord from hanging loop
The Heat Proof Pouch
Hana Pouch The Hana Shine Shield Heat Protectant I loved the pink rubber mat it came with! When I wasn't using the flat iron I put it on this.... So I washed & dc'ed as usual. I put in my usual leave-ins followed by the Hana Shine Shield, their heat protectant. It has a nice smell to it and it's a serum. The "ready" light came on in seconds. A fast warm up! I set the flat iron to my usual 370-380 degree-ish. Flat ironing took me a little longer than usual. I found that the Hana Pro didn't straighten my roots like I wanted towards the back of my head. : \ When I got to the top, it worked great. My roots have a more coarse texture in the back.... (I was 8 weeks post relaxer when I flat ironed). I had to raise the temperature to effectively straighten the back. I really don't like going beyond my usual 370-380ish because that's when my heat damage steps in for my hair. : \ I might go to 390, but 400 is pushing it! The Hana Pro was great at straightening my hair, but my roots required more passes. If you check out my last post, you'll see more photos of my hair. There's also some on my style blog here. I tend to lean my head to the side in all my pics....hahaha.

It's not fair to compare the Hana Pro to the GHD because the Hana Pro is not 100% pure ceramic like the GHD. But the Hana Elite is. ;-)Hopefully, I'll have a chance to test that out one day. This was my first time using a tourmaline ceramic flat iron. My FHI is just a ceramic flat iron. All in all, the Hana was a good flat iron for straightening the hair, but not so much with my roots. It probably would work better on 1-3b hair type. I have 4a/b type hair. I may try it in the future on freshly relaxed hair to see how it works. Does anyone have this flat iron? How does it work on your hair?? I want to hear some other perspectives on the Hana.
Note: Misikko sent me this flat iron at no cost to review. As always, my reviews are based on my honest opinion. Thank you.

That was before the GHD..... ;-) I'm going to type up an official review and post it tommorrow with photos of my hair. Waiting On My...FHI!!!

So after hearing all this commotion about the FHI I had to get it! lol Originally, I was checking out the CHI. After seeing this fotki album: http://public.fotki.com/patchouli85/flat-iron-tutorial-/ , I was like wowwwwwwwwww. This girl's hair is bangin'. My hair NEVER looks like that when I flat iron. Thus that begin my research on the CHI...lol. I found out that its one of the top flat irons out there and you definitely will pay a pretty penny for it. Another flat iron was on the list though. Yep, the FHI. I read so many great reviews about it I was torn for a couple of days about which one to go with. I picked the FHI because:

-It has an adjustable temperature control. It was cheaper than the cheapest CHI. The cheapest CHI I found had a fixed temperature. I have to be able to control the temperature. (I would've had to pay over a $100 for the CHI that has adjustable temp)

-According to my research, FHI seems like it would get my hair straighter. I could be wrong about this though.

-And of course it's ceramic (the CHI is too).

So now I am just patiently waiting on my FHI. I ordered it from http://www.frizzy2silky.com/ for $68.40. I used the discount code: frizzy2silky if there is anyone out there interested in getting an excellent deal . This is the absolute cheapest that I could find the flat iron for. Most sites had it for about $100. I should get it just in time for my relaxer which is in about 2 weeks. I can not wait to see the results! And of course I will posting them on Hair Gurl! :-)
